OUR JUNIOR BOARD IS A WONDERFUL WAY TO MAKE A TANGIBLE DIFFERENCE AT OASIS AND IN OUR COMMUNITY. JUNIOR BOARD MEMBERS ARE BETWEEN THE AGES OF 21 – 39 AND HAVE A PASSIONATE INTEREST IN HELPING IMPROVE THE LIVES OF OTHERS.

Kathryn Bowden

M. Ed, J.D. – Executive Director

Kathryn joined the Oasis staff in January 2006. She has a J. D. from Cumberland School of Law and a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Alabama. At Alabama, Kathryn was an Honors Scholar with a specialization in Women’s Studies. Ten years after receiving her law degree, she returned to college and earned a Master’s Degree in Counseling at Auburn University. Her prior experience includes the private practice of family law and service as Executive Director of two statewide nonprofits. Her special expertise in regulatory issues includes terms as an attorney for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), the U.S. Department of the Interior, and SONAT Inc. Her expertise in public relations includes her role as press secretary for two statewide political campaigns. Kathryn is a Robert Wood Johnson Ladder to Leadership Fellow and a Momentum graduate. Ms. Bowden’s business background, as well as her legal and nonprofit experience, combined with her education and personal passion for supporting women and children makes her the perfect fit as the manager of an organization dedicated to the well-being of women and children.

MS, LPC, NCC – Clinical Director

Shenitha is a Licensed Professional Counselor and National Certified Counselor. She earned her Master of Science degree in Counseling from Faulkner University, and a Graduate Certificate in Couples, Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. As mentor and supervisor, Shenitha acknowledges the gifts of each counselor while challenging them and fostering their growth and development. Prior to being named Clinical Director, Shenitha served as Counselor and Intake Coordinator at Oasis. Her focus of clinical work includes trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, identity issues, and life transitions. She is a Lifespan Integration Therapist, helping individuals heal from traumas and attachment deficits in a gentle, body-based therapeutic method which heals without retraumatizing. She has advanced clinical training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Bowen Family Systems Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and other evidence-based practices. Areas of experience and special interests include the aging population, women of color, cultural and family of origin issues, and connections between mind, body and soul. Additionally, Shenitha has advanced Clinical training in The Gottman Method, Bowen Family Systems, Dialectical Behavioral Systems, Behavioral Therapies and other evidence-based practices.

Jeri P. Kyle

Director of Development and Communications

Jeri previously served as the Oasis Office Manager, handling the administrative functions for operations, human resources, and facility management.  Her community volunteer experience includes ten years with Junior League of Birmingham, serving on the Executive Board and serving as Co-Chair of the largest fundraiser, the Antiques and Garden Show.   She recently served as Chair of the Gala for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). She was a member of the Beeson Grant Committee with Canterbury Methodist Church and served as Chair of the Mt. Brook School System’s Special Education Advisory Committee. Jeri has a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Auburn University. She was employed by Arthur Andersen Consulting, Hayes Microcomputer Products, MSA Software, and was the  owner of a payroll service for small businesses.
