joined the Oasis staff in January 2006. She has a J. D. from Cumberland School of Law and a Bachelors degree from the University of Alabama. At Alabama, Ms. Bowden was an Honors Scholar with a specialization in Women's Studies. Ten years after receiving her law degree, she returned to college and earned a Masters degree in Counseling at Auburn University.
Her prior experience includes the private practice of family law and service as Executive Director of two statewide nonprofits - Alabama Citizens for Constitutional Reform and Alabama Voters against Lawsuit Abuse. Her special expertise in regulatory issues includes terms as an attorney for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), the U.S. Department of the Interior, and SONAT Inc. Her expertise in public relations includes her role as press secretary for two statewide political campaigns. Kathryn is a Robert Wood Johnson Ladder to Leadership Fellow and a Momentum graduate.
Ms. Bowden's business background as well as her legal and nonprofit experience, combined with her education and personal passion for supporting women and children, make her the perfect fit as the manager of an organization dedicated to the well-being of women and children.
is a Certified Fund Raising Executive. Katrina completed her undergraduate degree at Washington University in St. Louis and her Master of Public Administration with a specialization in Nonprofit Management at UAB. Before joining Oasis, Katrina enjoyed five years at UAB, in various positions including Director of Marketing at UAB's Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center (ASC) and as a Major Gifts Officer for the ASC and UAB's Minority Health & Health Disparities Research Center.
Katrina has served on the boards of the Association of Fundraising Professionals - Alabama Chapter and the Birmingham Change Fund. From January 2011-January 2016, Katrina served as the youngest Trustee in the history of the Birmingham Public Library. Katrina has been recognized by B-Metro Magazine as one of Birmingham's most outstanding young professionals and she was featured as an inaugural edition inductee in Who's Who in Black Alabama. Katrina believes that women and families are the strength of our community and is thrilled to contribute her personal passion and professional fundraising experience to transform lives.
has been a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) for more than twenty-five years and is also a Supervising Counselor (LPC-S). She received her Master of Arts in Education with a concentration in Marriage and Family Counseling from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). She served as Oasis’ Intake Coordinator for five years and prior to joining the staff at Oasis worked extensively in community mental health and in private practice.
Carolyn has specialized interest and training in Solution-Focused Therapy and Play Therapy. In addition to her duties as Clinical Director, Carolyn also conducts individual sessions with women coping with depression, anxiety, grief, trauma and relationship issues.
is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). She received her Master’s Degree in Counseling from the University of Montevallo. Patty conducts individual sessions with women and adolescent girls, and provides education and outreach on such topics as depression, stress management, and issues related to the concerns of teenage girls.

Stephanie has experience working with individuals and couples coping with anxiety, depression, loss and bereavement, addiction, and relationship issues. Stephanie has specialized interest in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and grief work.

Cathy received her Master’s Degree in School Counseling and Educational Specialist Degree in Counseling from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Cathy specializes in play therapy with a focus on childhood problems such as sexual/physical abuse, trauma, anxiety, attachment disorders and anger management. Cathy also provides individual counseling to adolescents and women.

Karen holds a Master of Arts degree in Marital and Family Therapy and Art Therapy from Notre Dame de Namur University at Belmont, California. Karen has practiced as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Art Therapist in Birmingham and in Palo Alto, California.
In addition to traditional talk therapy, Karen specializes in Art Therapy for all ages to facilitate self-exploration and self-expression. She is also certified in LifeForce Yoga® for Depression and Anxiety which incorporates mindfulness techniques
Karen works with individuals, couples, and families on a wide range of issues including relationships, family of origin concerns, lifecycle transitions, depression and anxiety, stress management, loss and bereavement, at-risk behaviors, and anger management. She is the facilitator of Oasis' monthly art therapy groups at Pathways.
is an Associate Licensed Counselor (ALC) under the supervision of Carolyn Nemeth (LPC-S), and a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC). She is a graduate of the University of Montevallo, receiving a B.A. in Art and M.Ed. in Couples, Marriage and Family counseling. Elizabeth has experience working with children, adolescents and adults coping with depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, and substance abuse issues. She utilizes creative arts and play therapy techniques, and is currently working towards becoming a Registered Play Therapist.
is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Registered Play Therapist. Heather received her master’s degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Heather specializes in play therapy and trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy. She also conducts filial therapy sessions with parents and helps them to utilize positive parenting techniques. In addition she provides individual counseling to adolescents and women using creative therapeutic interventions. Heather is a member of the Association for Play Therapy and the Association for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Issues in Counseling. Since 2014, Heather has served on the Alabama Association of Play Therapists Board of Directors.
She holds a master’s degree in counseling from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Vaneshia serves as intake counselor at Oasis and provides individual counseling to women to help them improve their mental and emotional well-being. Her interests include family of origin issues and healing from the trauma of domestic violence and self-harming behaviors. She is the facilitator of Oasis' Wise Women Group at Freedom Manor.
Raena is working toward becoming a Registered Play Therapist. Raena received her bachelor's in Family Studies from the University of Maryland and her master's in counselor education from UAB. Raena enjoys working with survivors of trauma and previously worked at Children's of Alabama at their center for intervention and prevention, the CHIPS program. Raena practices as a non-directive play therapist and is interested in attachment, thera-play, and trauma recovery. Raena loves working with children and their families and is excited to be apart of the Oasis team.
